| This was inspired by the Emeryville mudflat sculptures I grew up seeing in the East Bay - (that's opposite San Francisco) | ||||

The Emeryville Mudflats became famous in the 1960s and 1970s for public art, erected (with neither permission nor compensation) from driftwood by professional and amateur artists and art students from local high schools, UC Berkeley, Cal-Arts and the Free University of Berkeley. |
| My Unkle Bill helped me out with my fuzzy memory of this - I write back to him - "Bingo! Thanks Unkl- Just found out they were taken down due to environmental concerns/hopes to reinvigorate the area for nesting birds etc. The area was featured in "Harold and Maud" - and anybody with photos is trying to sell them! [ mudflatsart.com ] Something called "the bulb" in the Bay Area is the current-day Emeryville Mudflats- do we kick out these homeless people to protect the environment with a state park? They make such wonderful art out of garbage...HA! I love the Bay Area! Anyways - thanks again" |
| http://www.mudflatsart.com/ normally a website, I can't get it to load right now... "Driftwood Whimsy" by Douglas Keister for a few bucks - night time photos of the mudflats. |
