AR Wynwood

January 16, 2013

Re+Public published two new videos demonstrating recent work with their Augmented Reality app at the Wynwood Walls in Miami, and the Bowery/Houston wall in NY.

What they’re doing here hints at wild possibilities.  I was able to work with them in Miami, and wish we had months not weeks to try everything out and play with it. Thinking about how this works is like witnessing a new “internet” open up where nothing existed.  The motivation for Re+Public is to crash this emerging understanding of a new public space with art and creative open ended purposes, before commercial and legal interests clog the discourse.  You can read more from Public Ad Campaign, one of two collaborators behind Re+Public, the other being The Heavy Projects.

There’s five functioning murals in the Wynwood compound, mine is inside their Nicelook Gallery.

See their second video at Bowery Houston here.

Wynwood Walls 2012

December 11, 2012

Thanks to Sean Mahan of L7 for assisting, the Walls team for all their support, the Goldman family and extended family for making this possible. I had a very nice time.  Meeting enormous artists that have been inspirational for a long while, in a swimming pool/South Beach atmosphere, was cool too.

455 NW 25th St. between 3rd and 5th, in Wynwood, Miami.

Neptune Beach, Florida

I recently spent 10 incredible days with legendary humans Kelly and Sean, surfing, ghost-riding bikes, watching Sean free dive a 70 foot natural spring, and hearing Kelly lecture on education and gardening. Before I left, we dropped this mural on the front of their home.

You may remember Sean from such soundtracks as “Travelouge” (2010) and recall his fine art.

444 Jefferson Ave in Bushwick.

I’m not sure, but I think just one set of black lines would have played better.  Oh well, I was curious to see them crossing.

Besançon, France

Four story wall (counting the attic), accessible only by ladder, between power and phone lines, on uneven ground.

Painting like this is not a good idea, but the mural worked out to be just what I’ve wanted to see/say for a while now.

I even liked it at the two tone stage.

Notice the lumber scraps used to level the ladder, yikes!  I’m glad I didn’t die.

This mural was something extra for Bien Urbain.  The real project is a collaboration with Eltono.  We’ll have documentation soon…

France is cool.
